Video Bitrate and Compression Fundamentals
Published by VJGU Studio Engineering • Updated October 2026
Exporting video at excessively high bitrates bloats file sizes and upload times without delivering perceptible quality improvements, because social platforms re-encode all uploaded media with aggressive server-side presets.
1. Recommended Target Bitrates
For crisp, artifact-free playback after platform compression:
- 4K UHD (3840x2160 @ 60fps): 45 to 65 Mbps (H.264) or 30 to 45 Mbps (HEVC).
- 1080p Full HD (1920x1080 @ 60fps): 12 to 16 Mbps (H.264).
- Shorts / Reels (1080x1920 @ 30fps): 10 to 14 Mbps (H.264).
